Students who leave the College without signing an official

If the student signs the official withdrawal card and is
passing in his work and if there is satisfactory reason for his

with a passing grade in the subjects in which he was currently

We. the members of the Inter-Fraternity Council of the Centre College of Kentucky
recogn1zins ourselves to be responsible to the College and to the members of our resl?ec:
t1ve organ1zat1ons, and realizing that a strong, properly constituted inter-fraternity orgao12at,on 1s necessary in order to promote the cooperative sp1r1t 1n inter-fraternity matters. do
hereby adopt the following constitution:
ARTICLB I-NA.?--fB

The name of this organization shall be the Inter-Fraternity Council of the Centre
College of Kentucky.
ARTICLE II-PURPOSE

Section I-The purpose of this Council shall be to promote the general interest and
~velfare of the associate fraternities.
Se tion II-To insure cooperation and to strengthen the relationship among the
fra tern1ties and betv,:een the fraternities and the College.
Section III-To contribute to the social life of the College.
Section IV-To regulate and coordinate the affairs and activities of the fraternities
on the campus.

Section I-The charter members of this or~anization are: Beta Theta Pi, De.I a Kapp.1
Epsilon, Phi K appa Tau, J&gt;hi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi, Sigma
lpha Epsi,on.
Section II-Any social fraternity '\\·hich possesses a charter from the Centre College
of Kentucky and which hac: at least four active members matriculated in Centre College
may be admitted to membership in the Council by a majority vote of the Council.

IV

Section I-The Council shall consist of two representatives from each fraternity.
A member of the faculty or administration shall be appointed by the President as the
Inter-Fraternity Council adviser.
Section II-Each member fraternity shall at the beginning of the second semester
and at the end of the school year designate two men " ·ho are to serve as the representatives
of that member fraternity.
Section III-The member fraternities of the Council shall each be entitled to two
votes, one to each representative and no vote may be cast in absentia. The president as
a representative is entitled to vote.

subject to the approval of the Council, and shall perform such other duties as pertain
to the off ice or President.
b. The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of
that officer.
The Secretary-Treasurer shall keep all records of the proceedio~s of the Council,

action is taken upon this matter by the Inter-Fraternity Council.

VIII-PowERs

Section I-The po"•ers of the Inter-Fraternity Council of Centre College shall be
of a legislative, judicial, and executive nature as regards the social fraternity located on
the campus of the Centre College of Kentucky in their relationships to~·ard the College
and among one another.
Section JI-The Inter-Fraternity Council, through a vote of one-half of its entire
membership, may prefer char es against any fraternity represented in its body.
Section III- All preferred cases shall be tried before a committee compo ed of one
representative from each fraternity, excluding the accused fraternity.

The following shall be the rules governing the rushing of prospective members to
the various fraternities:
a. The date of the rushing period shall be set by the Inter-Fraternity Council.
b. No man may be pledged whose name is not on the iist of eligibility, as provided
by the of[,ce of the Registrar preceding each rush period.
c. The Inter-Fratern ity Council v.·ill pick a day for each fraternity party at InterFraternity Council meeting.
d. No man shall be pledged after the closing of the rush period until the following
rush period.
e. A fraternity shall be held liable for the grades of a pledge in calculating the
fratern ity average.
f. The fraternity as a v.·hole must average a 2.0 for the semester preceding rush
period. A true and accurate list of all active members and pledges shall be given to the
Registrar at the opening of each semester.
g. A man depledged cannot be pledged by another f rateroity for one calendar year
from the date depledged.
h. A man depledged cannot be repledged by the same fraternity until one complete
s roester has elapsed.
RUSH RULES

Rush v.·ill not take place until second semester of the year 1961-62. Rules governing
rush v.•ill be published by the Inter-Fraternity Council during the first semester.

Section I-The combined fra~ernities shall ponsor two la~ge Pan-Hellenic d~~ces to
be given in the fall and the spring of the year. The IFC v.•111 act as an adm1.n1strator
in determining dance dates, name bands, and the amount of :ffiOney each frater~uty must
contribute to make the dances a success. These tv.•o dances v.·1ll upersede the six formal
dances of the past.

ARTICLE

I

The legislative and executive powers of the Student Government of Centre College arc
vested in the Student Congress.
ARTICLE II-MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. The officers of the Student Congress shall be a President, a Secretary, a
T reasurer, and a Social Chairman.
Section . 2. Other member~ of the Student Congress shall be one representative from
each fraternity, on~ representative from ~ach girls' residence, one representative from Politan
Club, a r~ep!esentat1ve of th_e no_n-fratern1ty m~n other. than freshman , and one representative
of Breck1nr1_dge Hall (an 1nt~rim representative, serving as a counselor ~.1ill be appointed
by the President to serve ut1t1l the freshman representative 1s elected )
Section 3. The advisers of the Student Congress shall be ro·o faculty members chosen

Section 4. Each member of the Congress shall have one vote.
ARTICLE III-QUALIFICATIONS

Section 1.
a. The President shall be a senior.
b The Secretary and the Treasurer shall be juniors or seniors.
Section 2 .
. a. No student shall_ be eligible to hold a seat on the Congress v. ho is on academic,
social , or conduct probation. 1\ny member of the Congress '\\'ho goes on academic social
or conduct probation at any time during his term of office on the Congress shall be auto:
matically removed from that office.

Sec.tion 1.
a. The officers of the Congress shall be elected as follov.·s: During the fourth \\'eek
before spring vacation, the nominating committee previously appointed by the Congress shall
post its nominations. Additional nominations may be made during the third ee before
spring vacation by a petition containing the signatures of forty per cent (40%) of the
student body. \ 7 oting shall be held during the last v.·eek before spring vacation and be
completed by the commencement of that vacation.
b. The candidates for President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Social Chairman shall be
proposed by the nominating committee. 1·his committee shall be composed of three senior
men, three senior \\'Omen, and a faculty advisor-all elected by the Congress. The President
of the Congress presides over meetings of this committee, but shall ha\'e oo vote.
c. Tv.·o candidates shall be nominated for each office.

a. Each Jud1c1al Board .shall handle any case called to 1ts attention by a Counctl
and any other of fenscs which 1t 1s asked to handle by any member of the student body,
faculty, or admi-01strat1on.
b. Each Judicial Board shall allow to the student appearing before it an opportunity
for defense including the right to cross-examine, to call w1toesses, and to have the assistance
of counsel chosen from the college community.
c. The af propr1atc Jud1c1al Board must approve the plan of membership and function
of each counc1 , and the proceedings of the respective councils.
( 1) The appropriate Judicial Board may, upon maJority vote of its members, assume
the po~ver of a Council which is dilatory 10 handling offenses.
(2) The appropriate Board may, if 1t judges necessary, peoal12e a Council or the group

d. All proceedings of each Judicial Board shall be kept secret until such a time as

�;. General Election Procedure
a. The election of all officers shall be held during the munths of March and April.
b. Presidents of the sophomore, Junior, and senior classes, and Pol1tan shall be
nominated and elected by their respective groups These groups shall not nominate more
than three people for each off1ce.
c. Nominations for all elections shall be posted three days preceding the day of
election. An eligibility list for all officers in the Student Government Assoc1at1on shall
be posted twenty-four hours preceding the student body meeting 1n which the nominating
committee 1s elected.
d. Where more than two people are nominated, there will be two elections for each
office. The two g1rls receiving the most votes 10 the first election shall be put up for
the second election. The one with the most votes in the second election shall fill that
office.

Section A
Executive Duties. The Student Council shall be the Executive Board
of the Association and shall have the powers usually accorded such bodies.

Section P. Freshman Orientation and Guidance.
A program of Freshman Orientation to last throughout the first semester shall be con•
ducted by the Women's Student Council.
Section G. Social .Acti..-ities
A Program of social activities among women residences shall be conducted by the Women's Student Council.

.ARTICLB V-MBETINGS

Meetings of the student body shall be called at the discretion of the President or
by a written request of twenty per cent of the members of the Associat100. It is recommended that notice of student body meetings be posted at least one day 10 advance.
The Student Cou!'lcil shall hold regular weekly meetings. Members having three unexcused absences during a semester will automatically resign from the Student Council.
Student body meetings, house mc:etiogs. and class meetiogs shall be compulsory .
Failure to attend will involve a penalty unless a legitimate excuse is given.

VJ-AMEND~fBNTS

Amendments and By-Laws of the Constitution shall be valid when agreed to by
two-thirds vote of the student body and when approved by the faculty. Ten per cent
of the members of the student body roay present a petition to introduce an amendment.

The name of this organization shall be the Centre Christ ian Association
II- PURPOSE
To promote the growth of Christian faith and Christian living among the students of
the college.
To serve as the coordinating instrument of other student religious activities on the
campus and in the community.
To direct the cooperative activities of the church related student fellowships.
To initiate and direct such Christ ian activities as can best be done on a campus wide
basis.

Section I
The chairmen of the standing committees sha 11 be apP.ointed by. the officers of the ~entrc
Christian Association. Additional members of ~h~ standing_ c?mm,ttees shall be nominated
by the chairmen and selected by the Centre Chr1st1an Assoc1at1on Cabinet.
Section II
The standing committees shall be:
a. The All Campus Fund Committee:
1. Shall direct all charitable drives approved by the Centre Christian Association ;
2. Shall apportion the funds received subject to the approval of the Centre Chr1st1an
Association Cabinet.
b. The Religious Emphasis_ Committee shall direct the planning and execution of any
special Religious Emphasis and its follow-up.

�c. The Outpost Committee shall direct student participation in service to churches io
the vicinity
d. The Worship and Program Committee:
1. Shall encourage and organize such meeting for devotion and discussion as will best
serve the needs of Centre students ;
2. Shall help correlate the cooperative programs of the member groups.
e. The Service Committee shall help plan and execute projects of service on campus
and in the community not assigned to another committee.
f The Chapel Committee shall help with the regular and special chapel services, providing ushers. worship leaders, and counsel.

AdJ1tions or changes in the By-Laws can be made by two-thirds vote of the cabinet
